Health Care Council
The Bridgeport Regional Business Council Health Care Council was formed in 2006 and the committee is made up of a cross section of the business community that is engaged in and affected by health care access and affordability. The committee has representation from area hospitals, HMO’s, insurance agents, providers, small business owners and the public health field.
During its first few months, the BRBC Health Care Council spent time reviewing health care as it related to access and affordability, determining the guiding principals that the business community like use to evaluate any health care reform and researching the details and status of legislative actions. The guiding principles, adopted from the Institute of Medicine are:
-
Healthcare coverage should be universal
-
Healthcare coverage should be continuous
-
Healthcare coverage should be affordable to individuals and families
-
Health insurance strategy should be affordable and sustainable for society
-
Health insurance should enhance health and well-being by promoting access to high-quality care that is effective, efficient, safe, timely, patient centered, and equitable
In addition to reviewing any legislative proposals and evaluating them with the guiding principles in mind, the BRBC Health Care Council has also sponsored events with the goal of engaging and education the business community on the subject of Health Care. Two Capitol Breakfasts have been held as well as a Wellness Forum. Plans for 2009 include another Wellness Forum, a Capitol Breakfast and the launch of a new Wellness Initiative.
A Health Care related Newsletter as established in 2008 and is distributed to all BRBC members through our IMPACT mailings. If you would like any additional information about the BRBC Health Car Council, contact Karen DelVecchio at 203.335.3800 or delvecchio@brbc.org.
