BRBC Names New Chairman of the Board of Directors
BRIDGEPORT, February 2016 –
Armando Goncalves, Division President, Senior Vice President, People’s United Bank has been elected to a one-year term as Chairman of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council Board of Directors.
“We are pleased to have someone of Armando Goncalves’s caliber and experience take on the Business Council Chairmanship. Armando will carry on the BRBC’s tradition of engaging regional business leaders committed to our mission of jobs growth, economic development, and community improvement. His vast experience as a community leader will serve the interests of the regional business community well in this new role”, said Paul S. Timpanelli, President and CEO of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council.
As Market President of People’s United Bank, Mr. Goncalves oversees the overall strategic direction for branches in both retail and business banking in Southern Connecticut and Westchester/Hudson Valley.
In addition to being a member of the Executive Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Bridgeport Regional Business Council, Armando also serves as a Board Member of the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation, Member of the Board of Visitors of the John Welch College of Business at Sacred Heart University, Member of the Strive Together Collective Impact-Core Leadership Team of the Board of Education and also a Board Member of the LifeBridge Community Services; a Barnum Festival Board Member and 2011 Ringmaster.
Past affiliations include: former Board Member of Action for Bridgeport Community Development (ABCD), Member and Past President of the Bridgeport Rotary Club, Past President and present member of the Portuguese-American Civic League, former Board Member and co-founder of the Fairfield Public Education Foundation, former Board Member and Past Chair of the Greater Bridgeport Community Enterprises, Inc, former Board Member and Past President of the International Institute of Connecticut, past Board Member of the Bridgeport YMCA, former Alderman for the City of Bridgeport, Past President and present member of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Vasco da Gama Cultural & Civic Center, and former Board Member of the United Way. Armando is a past member of the Board of Directors of the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut Regional Plan Association located in New York City.
He has been honored with numerous community service and volunteerism awards including the People’s United Bank Community Leadership Award, the State of Connecticut Governor’s Award for Community Service, the ABCD Community Service Award, the YMCA Award, and the 2011 Good Scout Award and was honored by The Kennedy Center as the 2011 “Tribute” Honoree, and received 2013 “Distinguished Citizen” Award from the Housatonic Community College Foundation. Armando was the 2011 Barnum Festival Ringmaster and lead a cadre of over 100 volunteers though eighteen events during the year. The Festival also produced Bridgeport’s annual Fireworks extravaganza and the Great Street Parade and brought entertainment and enjoyment to the residents in twenty-four area Nursing homes with the Road Show. Most recently, Armando received The Klein Auditorium Jacob Klein Leader of Distinction Award on November 23, 2013. Armando received his Bachelor’s Degree from Sacred Heart University and is a graduate of the National School of Banking from Fairfield University.

Representing 800+ member businesses and organizations in the Greater Bridgeport Region, the Bridgeport Regional Business Council is a voluntary organization that works to promote regional cooperation and economic development via advocacy for the expansion, retention, and recruitment of business, improved transportation/infrastructure, affordable healthcare, and business friendly legislation in pursuit of its goal to increase jobs and tax base growth.
