MISSION AND WORK:
The collective goal of Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC) Program Affiliates is to advance the BRBC mission to grow the regional economy by offering cost effective leadership and professional development programs designed to support local businesses in attracting and retaining a skilled and engaged workforce.
The Women’s Leadership Council (WLC), a program affiliate of the BRBC, works to engage business women in a program that will contribute to the economic growth and positive reputation of the Greater Bridgeport Region by delivering professional leadership development to a wide and diverse audience of entrepreneurs, small businesses, minority-owned businesses, non-profits, and students.
The Women’s Leadership Council centers its program of work around the following objectives:
- To provide the region’s business community with information, tools and resources that will support a strong business environment and jobs growth.
- To create a network for women among BRBC member companies as well as within the Greater Bridgeport business community.
- To support the BRBC’s women-owned businesses and those BRBC member businesses that service the region’s women and children.
The Women’s Leadership Council Board of Directors works together to set event dates and topics for two or more leadership development events each year. While these leadership development events are designed for a diverse audience of women and men, business people and students, the WLC designs programs that will showcase women who have become leaders in their fields and in the community.
The WLC, Presenting Partner Fairfield County’s Community Foundation’s Fund for Women and Girls and Program Sponsors (that have included Bank of America Merrill Lynch, R.C. Bigelow, High on the Hog Catering, Housatonic Community College, People's United Bank, Pullman & Comley LLC, SCORE Greater Bridgeport, The Right Resource, United Bank and YP Marketing Solutions) have delivered exciting workshop events to the business community over the past several years.
A positive outcome of funds raised via the sponsorship and ticket sales for WLC events is the Council’s ability to award a grant to a BRBC woman-owned business and/or a BRBC business that services the region’s women and children. The grant or grants awarded each year have included funding for specific recipient programs as well as funding for recipient marketing efforts. 2018 grant opportunities are specifically for supporting applicant marketing efforts through the BRBC’s Member Spotlight video program.
Since the introduction of the Bridgeport Regional Business Council’s Women’s Leadership Council Grant program in 2014 and with the support of our event sponsors and attendees, the WLC has been graced with the opportunity to award more than $8,000 dollars in grant value to local women owned businesses and non-profit organizations serving women and children in the Greater Bridgeport Region.
Grant Recipients have included: The Center for Family Justice (funding grant), The McGivney Community Center (funding grant), The Strategies Group (video grant), Universal Printing and Mailing Services Inc. (video grant), and our 2017 WLC Marketing Grant recipient Junior Achievement of Western Connecticut...
Marketing and sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses interested in supporting and advancing the mission of the BRBC’s Women’s Leadership Council.
