MISSION AND WORK

The collective goal of Bridgeport Regional Business Council (BRBC) Program Affiliates is to advance the BRBC mission to grow the regional economy by offering leadership and professional development programs designed to support local businesses in attracting and retaining a skilled and engaged workforce.

Leadership Greater Bridgeport - Interactive Program Structure

An affiliate program of the BRBC, Leadership Greater Bridgeport (LGB) is a nine-month experiential leadership program designed to develop and elevate community leaders. Leadership Greater Bridgeport is a program that began in 1990 and has over 800 alumni. Each year, a cohort of leaders and rising stars who live and/or work in the Greater Bridgeport Region convene to create a lasting network of contacts, learn about the challenges and opportunities in the region, and give back to the community through a meaningful group project. The cohorts comprise diverse individuals from large corporations, small businesses, nonprofits, government entities, and entrepreneurial ventures

The LGB cohort meets in person for a full day once a month, from October through June, plus an additional orientation day in October. Each class day is held in a different location around the region, offering access to many sites that are not open to the public. Participants will hear from community leaders on specific topics and engage in conversation with each of them. This will enable participants to be acutely aware of community issues and challenges.

Our unique approach to leadership offers a deep dive into regional issues, access to community leaders, and networking opportunities with other ambitious individuals in the Greater Bridgeport area. Candidates for LGB are interested in investing in themselves, their organizations, and their communities. The program sessions provide an in-depth look at the following:

  • the regional economy
  • local and state government
  • health care
  • human services
  • education
  • public safety
  • criminal justice
  • the arts
  • local environment and infrastructure

Participants will also hone their leadership skills through a community service project to support a local nonprofit. Candidates choose their desired project and work in teams toward its successful completion throughout the program.
